Sick, yet again

I read recently that a the average child gets sick (even just the sniffles) about 8-12 times a year. That seemed so much to me, until recently. I am home with Wesley again today. He has had a horrible respiratory virus. He has run a fever over 102 for 2 days, red throat, ear infection, horrible sinus infection (nasty nose), cough, and is so needy (and why not, he feels horrible). We went to the dr yesterday and the first thing he said was that his lips were swollen. I had not noticed that until he said it. Well, the doctor did not think he looked good at all is is probably out of school the rest of the week. He is on a strong antibiotic and decongestant/antihistamine.

But with the weather in South Louisiana, there is not question why so often. Monday was very cold; Tuesday was warm; Wednesday was cold again; Thursday, warm, and friday will be cold yet again!!! There were 9 out of 17 kids absent from Wesley's class yesterday, and that was before I took him home. (His fever had broken that morning and he looked so good. I needed to go to school for at least an hour to video a lesson for National Board Certification. I had made an appointment just in case and am so glad I did cause his fever returned. I picked him up at 10 and went to the doctor. Oh, and when I called for his appointment at 9am, they only had 3 appointments left that day -- wih 2 doctors and a practitioner -- unbelievable!!!)

The twins are doing great. Both are starting to cut another series of teeth. alex has 4 coming really soon (poor baby). Alex is still on treatments 3-4 times daily, but his wheezing is under control.

Wesley's Field Trip

I set up a field trip for Wesley's class to visit Rivertown in Kenner. (I am the parent committee head, so get this blessing -- Luckly April is vice chairman, so she helps me out). The kids will be studying trains in the upcoming weeks, so they visited the Toy Train Museum. They also visited the Mardi Gras Museum and Science Center.

Daniel was on vacation so he was able to go with him. Unfortunately, I could not since I had a field trip at my school the same day. Wes had so much fun. He loved pretending to drive the train at the Train Museum and dressing up in the Mardi Gras Museum.

Enjoying Cookies

Wes and I baked chocolate chip cookies. The boys loved them!!

Wesley's Report Card

Wes received his first report card from Headstart. He did a wonderful job. His teacher constanly tells us how he is so much fun to have in class. It really makes us feel wonderful to know he does so well and get along so well with his classmates.

If you click on the report card, you should be able to see it larger.

Stomach flu

Wow, it has been so long since I have last posted -- sorry. We have struggled with the stomach flu for the past couple of weeks. Aiden started with it the Thursday I returned to school, then Wes, then Alex, then Daniel and I and then I think the twins each had a little case again (or they were finishing it off). However, it happened, I think we are finally doing much better from it. I have heard so many get it much worse than we had it, so we were lucky.

Below I will post many pictures from the past two week. The boys are starting to eat more independently, something their therapists are strongly encouraging. They are talking non-stop, but we still do not understand any of it! We are actually in the process of trying to add speech therapy to their schedule as well. We did slack off on physical therapy since they are doing so well, but the instructional specialist is worried about their speech. I have been told that twins create their own language and usually seem delayed in speech, but I will follow their advice.

Other than that, we are doing great here.

look at that wild hair
We were able to go play outside one day -- we had to get out the house and get some fresh air. The boys love outside. You would never know they were sick!

Aiden was so happy after his bath!

Alex has been back on treatments for a while now -- we are at 4 treatments a day with Xopenex and 2 treatments with Pulmicort. Alex does well with it. He actually will go get the mask and pretend to give himself a treatment. We do give him his pacifier when he does his treatment to help sooth him. He was so tired for this one.
Daddy and Wes pretending to sleep too.
Mashed potatoes!!!
What a messy dinner!! We should have kept the baths for after dinner. Oh, notice Aiden's new do (hair that is). He fought so much when we went get their hair cut we went short, very short.
I went with all 3 by myself but quickly had to call my mom for help. They were both screaming. We can't figure out if it was the scrubs or not -- they recognize nurses so quickly with receiving so many shots monthly. Alex calmed down when Aiden started feeding him cereal. We could not get Aiden happy though and after lots of screaming and holding him down, we finally went down to the razor to help make it even. It is shorter than I would have originally wanted, but there was no way we could have done it any other way.
Wes and PawPaw

I had painted this tabel for Wes' room when we decorated, but for the time being we are moving it to the kitchen. The boys love eating here.
We went to a christening party at Aunt B's yesterday. We tried to get a picture with all the babies, but it was impossible. The party was for Hali and Christopher, Aunt B's 2 new grandchildren who were born only a month apart. There were so many babies there the comment was made over and over about this being a nursery. Seriously, there were about 15 kids younger than Wesley, including another set of twins (boy/girl) born 4 months ago. We had a blast!

Eating Mac and Cheese -- the boys love mac and cheese and would eat it every meal if I would let them. Aiden got tired of the spoon fairly quickly and went ot his hands. It is hard to feed them now-- they want tot do it all themselves.

They were definately full at this point, but they can't resist getting food from PawPaw. Alex was mid getting dressed when he decided to run to get more food.

Good Morning

This video is from a few days ago. The boys are so cute when they wake up. They will talk with each other for quite a while, and when we open the door then tend to go crazy. Of course, when I walk in with a camera in front of me they are more worried about the camera than me walking in.

The reason for this video, however, was to verify what I have been trying to tell everyone. The boys are trying to climb out of their bed. Notice that Aiden started to lift his foot at the same time Alex did, but Aiden does not like to get into trouble. Alex, on the other hand, finds trouble where ever he can. and when he can't find it, he makes it.

Sorry for the abrupt stop on the video, but I needed to stop and correct him . So now answer the poll on the side and/or leave comments to let me know if I should start planning their move to a big bed. I would really love to keep them in the cribs a bit longer, but I know pediatricians advise to move them as soon as they start trying to climb out.
